The development history of paper display packaging products

As an indispensable commodity display and marketing product in today’s society, paper display products have a relatively long history. Today, I will introduce the development history of paper display packaging products.

In fact, humans have invented paper for 2,000 years. In addition to being an important carrier for transmitting information, paper also has a prominent function, that is, packaging.

Paper product packaging is a packaging material product with paper and pulp as the main raw material. The product range includes paper containers such as cartons, cartons, paper bags, paper tubes, and paper cans; pulp molded egg trays, industrial packaging liners, paper trays, Paper corner protectors and other paper cushioning materials or inner packaging materials: corrugated cardboard, honeycomb cardboard and other boards; and paper lunch boxes, paper cups, paper plates and other paper disposable tableware. As the basic raw materials of paper products, paper and cardboard specially used for packaging also belong to the category of paper product packaging.

Papermaking first began in the Western Han Dynasty, according to “Hanshu. “The Biography of Empress Zhao of Xiaocheng” records that “there is a piece of medicine wrapped in the basket and a book written by He hoof”. Ying Shao’s note said: “He hooves are also thin and small paper”. This is the earliest documented record of paper in the Western Han Dynasty. Since paper in the Western Han Dynasty was too rare and expensive to be widely used at that time, silk bamboo slips were still the main writing tools at that time, so it is obvious that paper at that time could not be used in large quantities as packaging materials. It was not until the first year of Yuanxing in the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 105) that Shangfang ordered Cai Lun to create cheap “Caihou paper” on the basis of summarizing the experience of the predecessors, and paper as a new milestone of packaging stepped onto the stage of history. Afterwards, after the appearance of woodblock printing in the Tang Dynasty, paper was further developed as packaging, and simple advertisements, patterns and symbols began to be printed on the packaging paper of commodities. The most common cartons in modern society appeared in the early 19th century. The United States, Britain, France and other countries have begun to develop carton production technology. It was not until around 1850 that someone in the United States invented folding cartons and production technology. , which really makes paper an important raw material for the packaging industry.

With the development of the times and society, the demand for paper as a packaging material is increasing. According to the statistics of world paper industry output in 2000, packaging paper and cardboard accounted for 57.2% of the total paper products. According to the statistics of the China Paper Association, in 2000, 2001 and 2002, the consumption of packaging paper and cardboard in my country accounted for 56.9%, 57.6% and 56% of the total paper products respectively, which is similar to the general trend of the world. The above data shows that nearly 60% of the world’s annual paper production is used as packaging. Therefore, the largest use of paper is no longer an information carrier in the traditional sense, but as a packaging material.

Paper product packaging is one of the most important packaging materials, widely used in the packaging of food, medicine, chemical industry, building materials, home appliances, toys, electromechanical, IT products, textiles, ceramics, handicrafts, advertising, military industry and many other products. occupy a pivotal position in the

In the 21st century, paper has become the most important material in the packaging industry. Among the various packaging materials used globally, paper and paperboard accounted for the highest proportion, accounting for 35.6% of the total output value. In my country, as an important raw material for the packaging industry, before 1995, paper product packaging materials were the second largest packaging materials after plastic packaging. Since 1995, the output value of paper product packaging has gradually increased, surpassing plastic, and becoming the largest packaging material in my country. By 2004, the consumption of packaging paper in my country reached 13.2 million tons, accounting for 50.6% of the total output, exceeding the sum of glass, metal and plastic packaging materials.

The reason why traditional paper product packaging materials have regained a rapid development speed in a few years and become the largest packaging material is partly due to the excellent adaptability of paper packaging products themselves, and more importantly, environmental protection issues. Due to the restriction of plastic products and the pull of the consumer market for environmentally friendly products, paper materials are the materials that best meet the requirements of “green packaging”.
